HMRC Tax Rebate Phishing Email

Please be aware that there is a tax rebate phishing email currently targeting islanders. The HMRC tax rebate/refund email scam is quite common and therefore it is very important that islanders are aware of it and remain vigilant.

Individuals have reported receiving an email purporting to be from 'HMRC - Tax Rebate' claiming that they are "eligible to receive a tax refund" and directing them to complete an online form by clicking on a hyperlink.

HM Revenue and Customs would never send notification of a tax rebate or refund by email.

If you or anyone you know receives this message, do NOTclick on any links contained within the scam email as they might contain viruses and malware which could be designed to steal your personal information.

Anyone who receives an email of this nature is asked to forward it to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk (so that HMRC is aware of it) and then delete it.
